And so they dance a twisted dance, Shornaal the Serpent,
he who is terrible and divine to behold, seducing devil with
a crown of stars, chases the Children of the Eternal Flame,
borne of the weeping Goddess.

His hunger is for the one who escaped, his laughter; mocking
and maddening. The Laughing God stalks the webway,
neither light nor shadows, he keeps his children safe from
the grasp of the hungry bitch. Waiting and hoping to promise
them all a better future one day.

There are four kinds of Eldar (space elves):
Eldar
Dark Eldar
Harlequins
and Exodites

Your standard Eldar are those that managed to escape the cataclysm that destroyed 90% of their race, loosely termed 'good' .
Dark Eldar, the ones that caused the cataclysm, are a bunch of extreme hedonists, very very 'evil'.
Harlequins are neither good nor evil but strive to safeguard what's left of their species, they are the 'wildcard' as they are highly unpredictable.
Exodites are basically the ones that established colonies BEFORE the cataclysm, they wanted to start a new and simpler way of life away from war and bloodshed.

As for your question, Harlequins are welcomed and respected by all Eldar, they serve one of the only surviving Gods of their race so nobody really wants to mess with them. Again neither good NOR evil, they are mysterious and dangerous to cross.

So Do Space Marines respect them like the Eldar or just stay out of their way because they are loose cannons?

Oh hell no, Space Marines don't respect anything that's not human or doesn't worship the Emperor, lol.

Remember that Eldar are the same species (elves), so it's a different scenario.

The Warhammer40k universe was build on a single premise; 'In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is ONLY war.'...and they DO mean that quite literally.

I would not say that, remember the Ultramarines, Grey Knights, Blood Ravens, DeathWatch will do anything to ensure the survival and mandate of Man...even if it means letting another race live, even if it means doing something they REALLY do not want to do...I just think the Imperiums hatred for Xenos is what makes them so vulnerable to corruption of the Chaos Gods like Khorne (oh the Irony)
